One of the popular south Indian breakfast dishes is the one made with sooji or rava as it is also called. This is considered as a healthy breakfast meal completed with a fruit and cup of tea or glass of milk. Well, one can also sip their cup of coffee. Given below is the upma recipe:
The ingredients:
2 cups Sooji (rava)
Finely chopped Ginger
4 finely chopped green chilies
1 small finely chopped onion
Salt to taste
Oil
4 cups water
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon urad dal
1 teaspoon channa dal
1 teaspoon hing
Roast the sooji for a few minutes and keep it aside. Then in another cooking dish heat the oil and cook together the mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal and hing. Then add the chillies, ginger and onions and cook till it is translucent. Then add the salt and water and let the mixture boil. Then add the roasted sooji, stirring the entire mixture so that no lumps are formed. Simmer and cover for five minutes. IT is then ready to serve.
